While high fat diet is not recommended for good health, but Danish researchers have come up with a new study where high fat diet has helped in postponing brain ageing. This is quite a contrast because their research study has proved that brain related diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s can be postponed if the patient is put on high fat diet. Professor Vilhelm Bohr from the Centre for Healthy Aging at the University of Copenhagen and the National Institute of Health mentioned that their study clearly concludes that high fat diet works to benefit the brain and it can keep the brain ageing issues at bay for a long time.

The new study indicated that there were positive effects when mice were provided with medium chain fatty acids from coconut oil. Human age has an effect on our repair system that cease to function as we grow old. This defect is called Cockayne Syndrome. As per the study, our brain constantly needs sugar and ketones that act as brain’s fuel reserve. With the help of high fat diet, the brain constantly gets the right amount of fuel that is required as it breaks down sugar and produces ketones. The new study was published in the scientific journal Cell Metabolism.
