Motherhood is divine. After the baby is born it’s a moment of excitement, thrill and an inexplicable feeling of joy and happiness. However with this happiness there can be times when the woman turned mother feels low, sad and depressed. This feeling of negativity, depression and loneliness is known as postpartum depression. In some cases the mood sets in since pregnancy. This heightens after childbirth. The emotional changes and the physical irritability that occurs during this phase are mostly attributed to the chemical and hormonal changes that take place within the body. Postpartum depression is a serious disorder which is plaguing today’s career-conscious mothers.

Some ways in which postpartum depression can be overcome

• Try to spend the maximum quality time with your partner. Do not keep to yourself all the pain and anxiety that you suffer. Share the pain for it will get lessened
• Relax your mind and body by pampering yourself to the hilt. Go out and relax at any spa or listen to music to feel happy.
• Be with family and friends. Avoid staying alone.
• Do not overburden yourself with work. Do as much you can.
• Talking to other mothers is often helpful. For you come to know that you are not the only mother feeling irritable.
• Getting advice from the medical practitioner can be of great help.
• Must know yourself and try to identify the areas or actions that give you most happiness.

Practicing just these will help in combat the baby blues or the postpartum depression.
