Hemorrhoids or piles is swollen, inflammated veins around the anus or lower rectum. The general cause is excessive stress and pressure on the rectal veins and valves. This causes the muscle that support the hemorrhoidal vessels to weaken resulting in a sac like protrusion inside the rectal canal or outside under the skin around the anus.
Hemorrhoids can occur at any age but is noticed more amongst young women, pregnant women and people suffering from restricted bowel movement and prolonged constipation. Excessive drinking of alcohol and caffeine can also cause hemorrhoids. It can also be caused by people suffering from diarrhoea and obesity.
