Coagulation is process by which blood is clot and then heals a cut and stops the bleeding. It is also a complicated part of Hemostasis. It stops blood loss from damaged blood vessels. In Hemostasis a damaged blood vessel is blocked by a Platelet and clot of fibrin stops the bleeding and the damage is repaired.

Coagulation consists of Platelets and the Protein components.

When a lining of the blood vessel is damaged, Platelets form a membrane at the place of injury and proteins in the Blood Plasma chemically reacts to form fibrin that forms the Platelet covering.

Bone marrow transplantation

Patients with certain forms of cancer like leukemia, breast cancer and lymphoma are sometimes treated by performing bone marrow transplant. The basic purpose of bone marrow transplant in women with breast cancer is to provide them high-dose chemotherapy that attacks cancer cells and proves damaging for the normal blood cells. And afterward substitutes the damaged cells with healthy ones.

The spongy tissues found inside bone are known as bone marrow. There are stem cells in the bone marrow found in breastbone, hips, skull, ribs and spine. These stem cells produce blood cells in the body. There are three kinds of blood cells and they are known as red blood cells that carry oxygen in the blood, white blood cells that fight against attacking viruses and bacteria in our body and platelets that help in clot-forming of the blood.

More often, the prescription of bone marrow transplantation is made on individual basis. The things which doctors consider are age, physical condition, diagnosis and stage of disease.

During a transplant, the given bone marrow comes from you or from a donor that has matching bone marrow with yours. The matching process is known as human leukocyte antigen testing (HLA testing). This is a series of blood tests that evaluate the compatibility of tissues between the receiver and the donor.

Fibrocytes (blood cells) May Help Cancer Growth

FibrocytesBlood cells that work to heal wounds may also develop suitable condition for cancer cells to spread, stated U.S. researchers, Tuesday.

According to the scientists fibrocytes, blood cells that originate from bone marrow, may explain how healthy cells become environmental for cancer.

“It has been known before that cancer cells don’t have an easy access to healthy tissue,” stated Dr. Hendrik van Deventer of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

“Though we haven’t recognized this cell, yet we believe it may be a fibrocyte” van said

While working with genetically engineered mice Van first time suspected fibrocytes as these were lacked the cell receptor CCR5, which is a cellular gateway that assists controlling the movement of cells through the body and it is also the similar gateway that is used by the human immunodeficiency virus that leads towards AIDS after accessing to immune cells.

The genetically engineered mice that also suffered the skin cancer melanoma were inclined to receive less metastatic tumors than other normal mice with the skin cancer. In their efforts to make these altered mice form more tumors, Van and his team methodically injected these altered mice with different kinds of cells from normal mice.

We tested it with a variety of different cells and found that fibrocytes working, Van said.

Fibrocytes move in the bloodstream to injured areas in healthy human and they develop such changes as are suitable for wounds to heal but according to van these changes may tend to help cancer growth.
