The name Pasta has a strong connection with its birthplace Italy. As one spells pasta, in no time its second phrase would be the healthy Italian dish loved by all ages at all times. Pasta has been the pride and glory of Italy. Wherever the Italians have immigrated they have taken pasta with them, and today, it has become an international staple. Unlike other Italian foods such as pizza and tomato sauce, which have a recent history of origin, pasta has a much older pedigree.
Pasta is made from dough using flour, water and eggs. Pasta comes in various shapes. It can also denote a name of the dish where the primary ingredient is pasta. Just as eating noodles reminds us of China and its usage way back in 2000 BC, in the same way pasta trace its roots in Palestine in some 5th century AD. Past made its way into the New World through the English who discovered it in Italy. Pasta today forms the part of family traditions from healthy meals to enjoying feast. The fat-free, salt-free pasta is the most healthy meal option for many.
The various forms of pasta include spaghetti that is mostly solid cylinders in shape, the tube shaped macaroni, the swirls fusilli and the lasagna. This low-fat food is a good source of folic acid, iron and numerous other nutrients. Pasta is hardly eaten as it is, it is mixed with various other ingredients enormously increases its overall nutritional value. It is an excellent source of Thiamine, Riboflavin and Niacin. Pasta is a good source of fiber and complex carbohydrates. It is a good choice for the athletes, as it requires energy to sustain them for a longer period.
With the introduction of pasta, elsewhere in the world, it got incorporated to a number of local cuisines that are prepared quite differently from its place of origin. Here is one, a dish meal of pasta with shrimps.
Spaghetti shaped pasta-1 box
Some large shrimps- 1lb
White wine-1cup
Fresh chopped parsley- ½ cup
Butter, salt, pepper and oil –as per taste
Preparation:
Boil the Spaghetti, drain the water in a separate bowl and keep it for a later use. Now spread the boiled spaghetti in a large bowl. Keep it aside. Now cook the shrimp in a frying pan with some oil. To cook the shrimp, heat the oil for some time and then add the sliced garlic cloves. As it turns golden frown, say after 1 minute, add the shrimps. Cook the shrimps, stirring until it is pink. Add olives and white wine, heat to a simmer for about 5 minutes. One needs to season the same with salt and pepper suiting to taste.
Now remove the shrimps and place it on the hot pasta. Now to the skillet add the pasta water. Heat it till it is thickened. Add a tablespoon of butter and begin whisking it. Pour sauce over pasta and shrimp, and add chopped parsley too. Toss it lightly to combine.
Serve this dish hot.
