To find whether the FTO gene affects on burning calories or appetite, the researchers studied more than 3,000 children cases aged 8 to 11.

The children that were found with copies of the gene’s unsafe variant had fewer chances to have their hunger ‘switched off’ when they must be full.

This study can be seen in the journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism
In Caucasian populations, FTO is counted as the first common gene that is related to obesity.
