11.jpgYeah, it’s quite difficult to turn down the sight and smell of food in different summer fairs and festivals. But, according to American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAI), people must take intensive care and keep themselves away from such foods, if they have food allergies.

Dr. Amal H. Assa’ad who is chairman of the Adverse Reactions to Food Committee says in this regard that there are many unanswerable questions about preparations, potential cross-toxicities and ingredients and if they remain unanswered, they may lead to an allergic reaction.

There are more than 150 anaphylaxis-related deaths in the U.S. every year and mostly it occurs because of food allergies. Mostly, people who suffer allergic food reactions have to undergo skin irritation, gastrointestinal upset and asthma symptoms, AAAAI estimates.

People who have food allergies must remember that they can get food allergens from unexpected places. For instance, peanut or soybean oil is being used in the fryers by many vendors who are making efforts to eliminate trans fats from these fryers.

To avoid serious allergic reactions to food, the following tips have been offered by AAAAI:

Consult your doctor if you have food allergies.
Say no to foods that you are allergic with.
If you are eating away from home, you must ask about the used ingredients and must also inform service staff, vendors or your hosts about the intensity of your allergy.
Always read food labels before utilizing this food.
You must carry self-injectable epinephrine if you have suffered an intense reaction in the past.
