Folic Acid Improves Vascular Functions
Nowadays the vascular problems in the female runners is very common especially in those who have amenorrheic problems and for such people a recent research lead by sports medicine researcher Anne Hoch, D.O. at The Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and it has been found out that oral folic acid may provided quite much cure for such ladies.
This study was actually published in the May 2010 issue of Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine. It has been found that those female athletes who performs excessive exercises in their daily routine and don’t take care of their healthy diet mostly have menstruation problems and it is also reported that such problems can bring high risks of heart attacks for such women.
The study discussed that there are almost three billion girls in highschool sports and approximately 23 million women who run at least six times a week and a previous study by Dr. Hoch conducted at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, Milwaukee shows that almost 54% of athletes have amenorrhea.
While the recent study by Anne Hoch, D. O., shows that folic acid supplement improved blood flow-mediated dilation in the brachial artery which correlates with increased blood flow to the heart and according to Anne Hoch “The earliest sign of heart disease can be measured by reduced dilation in the brachial artery of the arm in response to blood flow. Reduced vascular dilation can limit oxygen uptake and affect performance”. How much dose would be optimal has not yet been found and for that some more future study is required.
