Alzheimer’s Drugs Increase The Death Risk in Elderly People

Anti-psychotic medicines which are commonly used to cure Alzheimer’s illness may possibly increase a patient’s chancealzheimer-patients of dying within some years according to the latest study. Such surveys augment the concerns existing about such medications.

As per Clive Ballard, the lead author of the paper, working for the Wolfson Centre for age related diseases at the King’s College of London, majority of these patients suffering fromAlzheimer do not have a major risk from these specific drugs. It would put a question in everyone’s mind which is would you want to take a drug that would help you reduce aggression but increase your risk of dying sooner.

The result of this research was published in the Friday issue of the medical journal. Alzheimer’s disease is considered to be the most popular cause for dementia and causes all sorts of symptoms including delusions, excessive aggression and hallucinations.

Peanut Butter May Have Caused 3 Deaths

Minnesota health officials have linked dreadful salmonella that made more than 400 people sick in America to peanutpeanut_butter butter, adding that some three deaths could also have the same reason behind.The CDC didn’t give details of these deaths. Mississippi is the 43rd state affected by the malady.

State officials found salmonella bacteria in King Nut peanut butter at a medical facility in Minnesota. The testing resulted in the discovery of a genetic match between the bacteria strain found in the butter and illnesses across the country.

“One thing common in all the patients was that they had had peanut butter,” said Doug Schultz, a Minnesota Department of Health spokesman. The brand couldn’t be determined in every case, but there aren’t many around.

Peanut butter was provided only through food services and was not sold to consumers.

Vegetarianism On The Rise in US

Almost 367,000 American kids (about 1 in 200) are vegetarians, according to a recent study providing the vegetarian-diets1government’s first estimate in this regard. Other research hints the ratio could be four to six times higher among older teens who are more free to choose their diet.

Vegetarian diets are without meat, but the name is quite elastic as some self-proclaimed vegetarians consume white meat occasionally. The strictest avoiders called vegans rule out any animal products including eggs and milk. Adolescent  vegetarianism may be rising, partially because of  YouTube  slaughter images sufficient to shock many sensitive U.S. children. But there isn’t enough proof for that, according to government researchers.

The new estimate of young vegetarians comes from a recent federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study of alternative medicine based on a survey of thousands of Americans in 2007. Information on children’s diet habits was gleaned from about 9,000 parents and other adults speaking on the behalf of those under 18.

Dr. Gupta being Approached for Surgeon General Post

The Cable News Network here on Tuesday reported that CNN’s chief medical correspondent has been approached by dr-guptaBarack Obama; newly elected president of United States. It is said that Obama has offered Gupta to act as America’s next surgeon general.

Dr. Gupta has not been seen for some time on CNN. It is told by CNN that the channel prevented Dr. Gupta from reporting on the channel. His prohibited works include commenting health care policy that the new government designs, since the intended appointment was learnt.

Dr. Gupta writes columns for Time magazine, contributes his reports to CBS and hosts a program ‘House Call’ on CNN. Currently he is working as faculty in Atlanta’s Emory University School of Medicine. He in past, has been a frequenter to White House. Gupta has also acted as the then-first lady Hillary Clinton’s special advisor.
